New 4Gb Fibre to SATA SBOD
Infortrend has released a new 4Gb Fibre to SATA 3Gb SBOD. The SBOD is a switchable JBOD unit. The unit is a great addition to the FF-R4030 1U RAID Heads and the ESF16F-R/G4031 3U 16 bay RAD Unit. Both RAID Solutions offer the ability of both performance 4Gb Fibre drives and low cost high capacity SATA 3Gb drives.
The SBOD's are designed with 4Gb Fibre Channel dual-loop connectivity and accommodates large capacity SATA drives currently up to 1TB. The enclosure is built around dual-redundant power supplies, cooling modules and a cableless back-plane design. Utilizing FC-SATA protocol conversion and SES enclosure management technologies, the A16F SBOD is effortlessly managed and operated in a SAN environment.
Architecture:
The built-in firmware intelligence increases access efficiency by 75% more than the traditionally arbitrated loops. With fault isolation algorithms, this architecture also minimizes performance drops in the event of a disk drive failure.
Compatibility:
The 4Gb Fibre drive channels are also backwards compatible with older generation Infortrend 2Gb drive channels to expand existing solutions.
FF-R/S4030 RAID Head Solution
272 Drive Solution:
The FF-R4030 Dual Controller 1U RAID Head comes standard with Four(4) 4Gb Host Channels per controller and Two(2) Fibre drive channels and One(1) SAS to SATA Drive Channel. Each Fibre drive channel can support 112 drives. The SAS drive channel can support 48 drives. This gives us the capacity of 272 drives.

496 Drive Solution:
The FF-R4030 has the ability to re-configure Two(2) of the Four(4) Host Channels into Two(2) Drive Channels per controller. With 112 drives per channels and the 48 drives on the SAS expansion port creates up to a 496 drive solution.
In both configurations, all paths are redundant and all major components are redundant. The Solutions come with Infortrend's EonPath Multi-pathing software. The Infortrend units come with Embedded RAIDWatch Network Monitoring and SanWatch Network Manager. There is two levels of Snap Shot available for the units. The Units are VMware and Hyper-V Certified.
